Road Trips

Below are pictures of some of the local club-sponsored tours made during 2005. We also have pictures from cruise-ins and picnics, garage tours, and parades throughout the year. Be sure to check out the Events Calendar for upcoming activities.

2007 Coker Challenge

On Saturday, September 22nd, several NAR members assisted Coker Challenge driver and fellow NAR member Jeff S. in hosting a rest stop along the Coker Challenge route through Huntsville, AL. There was good barbeque and fun for all. Many NAR members brought out their own vehicles for display at the event.

Fall Tour to Tupelo

Twenty-two intrepid NAR members met at 7:45 am at the Ramada in Madison to travel to Tupelo for a weekend of fun. After a coffee stop in Moulton, we convoyed to Natural Bridge. After lunch, we drove to Tupelo where we toured The Elvis Presley birthplace, museum, and chapel.

On Saturday, we were up early for our private tour of the Tupelo Automobile Museum. Max Berryhill treated us to a fantastic tour of the museum and gave us lots of background information about the restoration of the cars.

He showed us the engine in the 1948 Tucker. He even took us back into the large area where they keep all the cars not yet on display. As if that weren't enough, Max allowed us to go into the restoration area to see how they work their magic on their old cars. I think this was the first time I ever saw Ed H. at a loss for words. Wow! seemed to sum it up for everyone who tried to take it all in.

After lunch, we went to the Oren Dunn Museum which featured displays inside and out.

Our final official stop of the tour was the Brices Crossroads Battlefield. We first went to the Visitors Center to view a video about the battle. Then we took the auto tour to see the various points of interest along the way.

On Sunday, several of our travelers returned home by the Natchez Trace Parkway and Highway 72. They all commented about the beauty of the scenery along the way.

David and Carolyn M. took the northern route through Corinth and on to Shiloh National Battlefield in Tennessee. They also enjoyed their journey home and were enthusiastic about the history they encountered

All in all, it was a lovely weekend spent with friends and old cars.

Glidden Tour to Lynchburg

Lynchburg, TN was one of several destinations the NAR region selected for the 2003 Glidden Tour we sponsored. The Club decided all these routes would also make fun and interesting individual tours for NAR members and friends. Over the last two years we have visited all the Glidden destinations; the last one being a tour to Lynchburg and the jack Daniels distillery in late Fall 2005.
